One of the most iconic jewellery moments in The Crown is when Diana chooses her engagement ring. 💙

In the scene, Diana is invited to Buckingham Palace to select from a tray that includes family heirlooms as well as the jeweller’s stock. Under the watchful (and slightly tense) eyes of the Queen and Prince Charles, she passes over the diamond, sapphire and ruby rings.

Her choice? She seems to be drawn by the colourful ones, first picking a Burmese ruby ring, but then ends up choosing the now-famous Ceylon sapphire 12-carat ring.

She chose it because it reminds her of her mother’s engagement ring and it is the same colour as her eyes. The fact she firstly doesn’t go for the typical diamond solitaire engagement ring and secondly chooses based on emotions is testament to Diana’s strong character and individuality. Now worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales, it remains a symbol of choosing with the heart. 🥰
